About...
The Pont-l’Abbé - Audierne railway line was a single-track, meter-gauge local line, opened in 1912. It was nicknamed the "Train-carottes (Carrot Train)" because it carried significantly more vegetables than passengers! Its final section, from Pont-Croix to Audierne, was shared with another local line, the Douarnenez-Audierne line, known as the "Train Youtar".
The shelter-halt of Plovan served this commune but was quite far from the town and isolated in the countryside between the towns of Tréogat and Pouldreuzic. This relative isolation and its neglect amidst the vegetation saved this modest building from destruction and vandalism after the line's final closure in 1935. It has now been cleared and even recently received a lick of paint!
The difference between a station and a halt is that passengers waiting there had to signal to the train engineer to stop, and passengers wanting to get off at a halt had to notify the engineer in advance, hoping he wouldn't forget...
The model is supplied in two versions: a raw concrete version, probably more in keeping with its original appearance, and a lime-washed version.
