About...

The rural chapel Notre-Dame de Kerinec was once a popular pilgrimage site, as evidenced by its church-like size, the presence of a former "hospital" for welcoming pilgrims (a building that has now disappeared; only the base of a few walls remains), and a rare calvary-pulpit indicating that, despite its size, the chapel could not accommodate the crowds of pilgrims and that preaching often had to take place outside.

The oldest parts of this three-nave chapel date back to the late 13th or early 14th century and reflect the style known as the "école de Pont-Croix". Its original bell tower was a central tower, as evidenced by the imposing buttresses of the transept and the exterior staircases. This central tower was replaced, probably in the 15th century, by a western tower. This tower houses a bell chamber with a balustrade and a high spire, which are later than the façade itself and date from the 17th or even the 18th century, preserving the earlier Late Gothic style. The calvary-pulpit probably dates from the 16th century.

Notre-Dame de Kerinec chapel is listed as first level in the Monuments Historiques (Historical French Heritage) since 1914; its calvary-pulpit has been registered as second level list since 1932.
