About...
The rural chapel of Notre-Dame-de_Bonne-Nouvelle of Quillidoaré (more commonly known as the chapel of Quillidoaré) is one of the many chapels of Porzay, a rich coastal agricultural region at the head of the Bay of Douarnenez.
There is no consensus on the precise dating of this large and beautiful chapel. Its western portal and bell tower date from the 17th century, and all its other openings, doors and windows, are unmistakably in the flamboyant style of the 16th century, while the general structure of the building is more reminiscent of the 17th century (total absence of buttresses, no side aisles, sloping rails without hooks). Is this a 17th-century building reusing the openings of an earlier building, or a 16th-century building whose western section was altered in the 17th century?
The small calvary is thought to be from the 16th century, and therefore contemporary with the openings (it bears the date 1781, but this is the date of a repair). The sacristy to the north of the choir was added in the 19th century.
Unfortunately, this beautiful chapel and its calvary have yet to benefit from any administrative protection.
