Notre-Dame de Kerdevot chapel is a beautiful and large rural chapel in the Pays Glazig (Quimper area).
It is in the flamboyant Gothic style and dates back to the 15th and 16th centuries. Its side sacristy was added in the 18th century. The upper part of the bell tower collapsed in the 17th century, and it was rebuilt at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, retaining its earlier silhouette, said “clochers à jours”, typical of the Cornish bell towers of the 16th century.
Popular tradition says that this chapel was built following a plague epidemic, but there are no archival documents that formally attest to this. On the other hand, some elements referring to the Duke of Brittany can be seen here and there in the building, which certainly demonstrates a ducal participation in its construction.
A large 16th century calvary is present on its placître. Most of its statues have unfortunately disappeared.
Notre-Dame de Kerdevot chapel is listed in the Monuments Historiques (Historical French Heritage) since 1914.
